THE tennis section of the British Games Club emerged victorious in their annual challenge match against the Dutch Club.
After losing out last year by the narrowest of margins – one point – the Brits were in resolute mood and ultimately achieved a comprehensive triumph by 133-73 games.
The tournament was played over 24 matches, divided between men’s, women’s and mixed doubles, with the Dutch Club hosting this year’s event at their home venue, Club Miramar, at La Romantica, Los Realejos.
The weather was perfect for tennis, with no wind and just occasional sunshine.
The hosts racked up a few points early on but the Brits soon overtook them with some sparkling tennis.
After a hectic morning’s play, an excellent barbecue lunch was enjoyed by the combatants and their respective supporters.
The trophy for the British Games Club’s most valuable player was shared by tennis captain Maxine Self and Geoff Lovatt, each winning 26 games, who are pictured above.
The winning British team line-up was: Maxine, Geoff, Mary, George, Derek, Heidi, Tony, Lynne, Robin, Maureen, Steph, Janet, Sven, Hara, Victoria, Nick and Ken, some of whom are pictured above.
