VICTORIA Neilsen emerged as the entirely appropriate winner of the British Games Club Tennis section’s Jim McColl Trophy this year.
Her margin of victory was emphatic and appropriate because, as a native of Canada, she shares her nationality with the man in whose memory the tournament is played.
Making the presentation of the glass-bowl trophy was David Self, a long-time friend of the late Jim McColl.
The ‘Player of the Year’ award, which goes to the player deemed to have made the most progress over the course of the season, went to Monique Dent. Monique has taught herself to play left-handed, despite being a natural right-handed player, to help her overcome injury issues and now has a vicious forehand on both sides.
The presentations were made during a celebratory lunch in the clubhouse, with grateful thanks afforded to mine-host Paco and his team for an excellent meal.
