THE British Games Club’s first social event of 2016 is a traditional Burns Supper, which this year takes place on Saturday, January 23.
Always a popular event in the club’s social calendar, Burns Night celebrates the life and great contribution to the culture of Scotland by the poet Robert Burns, who was born on January 25, 1759. Burns’s best-known work is, of course, Auld Lang Syne, but many of his other lines are still well used in everyday speech.
The Burns Night celebrations have a new venue this time round, the Hotel Teide Mar in the La Paz area of Puerto de la Cruz.
The evening will start at 8pm for 8.30 with a whisky mac reception and will be followed by an excellent buffet, including wine and water. Needless to say, haggis will be on the menu, with Mr Stuart Lorimer ‘addressing the haggis’ in time-honoured fashion.
After the meal you will be able to take to the dance floor, with Kevin providing the music
Tickets are €25 for members and €30 for non-members.
If you wish to attend, please make sure you let social secretary Susan Dickinson know in good time.
