RAY Blair captured the Men’s Championship in the British Games Club bowls section for the second year running, beating Ken Sheldon in a tense and hard-fought final of this season’s event.
It was his second singles title of the year, following on from his success in lifting the Duckworth Cup back in November.
For each of the protagonists it represented a third appearance in a competition final this term. For Ken, it marked the end of a run of six victories in singles finals dating back to 2013.
Ray will get the chance to make it a hat-trick of trophy triumphs when the overall Club Championship gets underway shortly.
The competition element of the Bowls section’s 2017/17 season is rapidly drawing to a close, with only the Club Championship and the Captain’s Salver, a competition open to any member who has yet to win a singles trophy, still to be completed.
The section can also reflect on what has been a successful season to date, with visitor numbers well up on last year. The weather has also been kind, with thus far only one playing session lost to rain since the season began back in October.
