TWO tennis groups who hold weekly playing sessions at Alvaro’s Club de Tenis went head to head in a new inter-group tournament added to the calendar.
The new contest pitted the British Games Club’s tennis section against a group of players from Finland.
And so successful was the first staging that it looks destined to become an annual event.
Initially envisaged as a men’s tournament, mainly because the Finnish group had only male players, the British Club couldn’t leave out tennis captain Maxine, who again proved to be one of the mainstays of the team as the Brits emerged emerged 73-39 winners from this first encounter.
The rivalries were soon forgotten, however, as both teams and their respective supporters retired to the clubhouse to enjoy an excellent celebratory lunch, served up by Cheo and his team in the clubhouse.
Our congratulations and thanks go to Nigel for conceiving and organising the day.
