The British Games Club kicks off its 2019 programme of social events with the always-popular Burns Night, which this year will be held on Saturday, January 26 at the Hotel Teide Mar in La Paz.
The evening will kick off at 8pm with a whisky mac and canapés reception, followed by a hot and cold buffet, during the course of which Mr Stuart Lorimer (right) will address the haggis in the traditional manner.
Dancing and live music will round off the evening.
Red/white wine and water are included in the ticket charge of €25 for members and €30 for non-members
Burns Night, though Scottish in origin, is now celebrated around the world in recognition of the great contribution to culture made by the poet Robert Burns. It is celebrated as close as possible to his birthday, January 25.
Burns is probably best known for Auld Lang Syne, although, rather like Shakespeare, many phrases from his poems are widely used in everyday speech by everyone whose mother tongue is English.
