A NEW addition to the annual calendar for the tennis section of the British Games Club saw lady members take the lion’s share of the day’s honours.
The new tournament started out last year as part of a farewell to long-time member and vice-captain Hara Davis. Dubbed the Hara Tournament, the winner was Lorna Hamilton and so enjoyable did the day prove that it was decided to make it an annual event, with each year’s winner providing the trophy for the following season.
Thus, members competed for the Lorna Tournament, with Moira Aungiers being declared the winner after four hours of highly competitive tennis.
Lunch followed, with Cheo, Jacobo and the Clubhouse team serving up another superb meal, at the end of which club captain Maxine announced the day’s winner and the destination of another important trophy, that for the most improved player of the season.
The destination of the impressive Pam Squires Trophy is voted for by the club membership and this year the accolade went to Rosalyn-Newitt-Ross, known to us all as Ros.
The day proved to be something of a double celebration for Moira, when a special celebration cake was produced to mark the occasion of the third anniversary of her marriage to fellow member Rick Aungiers.
