IT WAS the turn of the British Games Club to host the annual friendly tennis tournament against our big rivals from Los Gigantes, the Tipsy Terrace team.
This the 19th staging of the contest saw the biggest team line-ups yet, with 16 on each side.
All eyes were on the weather but fortunately it held out and the tournament started and ended on time with no rain interruptions.
Things began fairly evenly but, with the Games Club team missing key regulars through injury, gradually the Tipsy Terrace’s greater strength in depth began to take its toll and they crept ahead, eventually running out winners by 30 points.
The match was played in its usual friendly fashion and a superb, convivial lunch was served up to 51 people by Cleo and Jacobo’s clubhouse team.
Games Club tennis captain Maxine said: “All in all it was a great day, much enjoyed by everyone.
“Next year is the 20th anniversary contest and it will be played down in Los Gigantes. And you can be sure, we will be looking for revenge.”
Maxine also extended her thanks to the Tipsy Terrace captain and vice-captain Prissy and Anita for organising things so well from their end.
